Perspective

1) Someone throws a baby down a trash chute.

2) Volunteers take to the streets to count the homeless.

3) A lowlife gang member beats a woman and leaves her on the street.

4) And well, of course, you can't spell "quagmire" without I, R, A and Q.

And you're crying about a HORSE?

And you're crying about a HORSE?

To whom are you referring?

I think Jane is referring to the idiotic practice of enslavement and cruelty called HORSE RACING where yet another horse has suffered a long, excruciating death.

I never think it's a good idea to minimize someone's ability to extend compassion beyond himself, and even more importantly, to be able to extend it beyond his own species. Can you imagine the potential kindness that could be in the world if we didn't denigrate someone for their ability to care about a baby, the homeless, the beaten, AND the exploited non-humans of the world.

I think that probably contributes more beauty to the world than just bitching about everything, right?

Sometimes you just need to bitch about the state of the world.

That being said, I do agree with you, Troy, about the barbarous nature (no pun intended) of horse racing.

Barbaro should have been euthanized immediately, however, my twisted little conspiracy-theorizing mind went immediately to the MILLIONS of dollars in stud fees that his owners would have lost had they chosen to do that.

I have this idea that someone must have been responsible for harvesting Barbaro's little wigglies so his line could continue, thus the owners could get a proper return on their investment.

Isn't that a horrible thought?

Yes, it IS a horrible thought and I hadn't even considered THAT! You are probably totally right, too.

Yikes.
